Delhi-NCR: Humidity Meets Thunderstorms, Making Days Unbearable

Stepping outside in Delhi-NCR on 18 May 2025 was a challenge in itself. Folks were caught between sticky, sweaty humidity and bursts of sudden thunderstorms. Temperatures hovered in a zone that nobody enjoys—too warm to feel comfortable, too cool for ACs to do much, sitting tight between 28°C and 33°C. One moment, you might be fanning yourself against the heavy air. The next, a rumble in the clouds and the threat of a soaking downpour.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) kept a close watch, noting light to moderate rainfall popping up randomly across not just Delhi but much of Northwest India. Gusty winds, sometimes pushing up to 50 kmph, swooped through with little warning. So if you thought your umbrella would provide full defense, think again. This strange mix has been forecast to stick around for the entire week, with no signs of settling soon.

North and East India: Rising Temperatures and Patchy Rain

The story wasn’t all that different in the rest of the north and east. In Uttar Pradesh, the plains offered little comfort, just more scattered rain and those bothersome gusts. The mercury crept steadily upwards, with people in busy cities and farming towns alike looking at each other, wondering when the relief would come. For now, the IMD doesn’t see an end to the heat, with only short rain spells breaking up the monotony.

Bihar, too, seemed trapped in its own weather spiral. For three days straight—18th to 20th May—there was no escaping the rainfall and thunderstorms. While the downpours brought a bit of relief from the heat, they also made day-to-day life trickier. Wet streets, rumbling skies, and the challenge of getting things done outdoors quickly trained everyone to keep an eye on the sky.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan kept up its reputation for unpredictable weather. Western districts were warned about isolated rain and the possibility of dust storms making visibility and breathing more difficult. The dust, heat, and surprise showers created a confused weather recipe, catching even the hardiest locals off guard.

Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand were thrown into the mix, but not just with rain—a storm warning was out for potential hail. Both states braced for sudden icy showers: Himachal on the 19th and Uttarakhand expecting the worst through the 19th and 20th.

Elsewhere across the country, things didn’t ease up. Coastal regions, including Karnataka and Kerala, got heavy rain warnings running right through the week. Roads could get slippery, power outages are possible, and people were paying extra attention to local weather advisories to stay ahead of the stormy curve.

This past week turned minor weather chat into something everyone had an opinion on. One kid’s cricket game, a market vendor’s daily hustle, even an average commuter’s ride—all got thrown off by this unpredictable patchwork of heat, rain, and storms. As the IMD continues to sound alerts, checking the forecast before stepping out isn’t just sensible—it might just be the smartest move you can make this month.
